Pass the Baton
Young musicians. Professional mentors. One orchestra.
THE NEXT GENERATION TAKES THE STAGE
What happens when talented young musicians don't just learn from professionals, but perform right beside them?
Passing the Baton brings together the Denver School of the Arts Orchestra and Symphony of the Rockies for an extraordinary side-by-side performance celebrating mentorship, collaboration, and the next generation of orchestral musicians.
Twenty professional musicians from Symphony of the Rockies will join DSA students within the orchestra, rehearsing and performing alongside them as colleagues.
The evening itself embodies the idea of passing the baton. Dr. Lasansky, DSA orchestra director, conducts the first half of the program before Maestro Devin Patrick Hughes, Artistic Director & Conductor of Symphony of the Rockies, takes the podium for the second.
Together, students and professionals tackle two monumental orchestral works.
MORE THAN A CONCERT
This is the Crescendo Project in action.
Students experience the intensity and artistry of professional orchestral playing from the inside, sharing stands and sections with working musicians while preparing and performing major symphonic repertoire.
For audiences, Passing the Baton offers the chance to hear remarkable young musicians at an important moment in their musical journeys and to see what can happen when one generation of musicians invests directly in the next.
20 SOTR professional musicians. One student orchestra. Two conductors. One stage.
Mentorship isn't happening backstage. It's happening onstage.
