Symphony of the Rockies Raises $96,000 to Support Youth Music Education

In a monumental achievement, Symphony of the Rockies has raised an unprecedented $96,000 at its annual gala, setting a new fundraising record to support The Crescendo Project, the organization’s signature initiative for music education. The sold-out event, held in the heart of Denver, brought together patrons, musicians, and community leaders, all united in their commitment to investing in the future of young musicians in South Denver.

A Powerful Statement for Music Education and Equity

"Raising $96,000 in one night is more than just a financial milestone—it’s a powerful statement about the value our community places on music, education, and equity," said Bess Scully, Executive Director of Symphony of the Rockies. "This incredible show of support ensures that young musicians, regardless of background, can access the tools, mentorship, and experiences that will shape not just great artists, but confident, creative citizens."

The Crescendo Project is designed to provide transformative access to music education for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity. This program includes in-school enrichment, mentorship, conducting labs, and Children’s Discovery Concerts that inspire a lifelong love of music.

Investing in the Future of Music

"The Crescendo Project is where our mission truly comes alive—it’s where we hand the baton to the next generation," said Devin Patrick Hughes, Conductor and Artistic Director of Symphony of the Rockies. "This funding means more than instruments and lessons; it means doors opening, voices being heard, and young people discovering the power of music to transform their lives and communities."

Since its founding 72 years ago, Symphony of the Rockies has been a vital cultural pillar in the Denver Metro region. Under the leadership of Maestro Hughes, who has served as Conductor and Artistic Director since 2013, the organization has doubled its operating budget, professionalized its ensemble, expanded educational outreach, and earned consistent sell-out crowds.

A Legacy of Access and Inclusion

From virtual concerts during the pandemic to sensory-friendly performances and community engagement initiatives, Symphony of the Rockies is committed to making symphonic music accessible and inclusive for everyone. With a diverse ensemble of professional musicians, pre-professionals, community members, and music educators, Symphony of the Rockies' programming spans the classical canon as well as contemporary works, film scores, pop, folk, and even video game music.

Through initiatives like the Children’s Discovery Concert Series, Emerging Artists Program, and the Crescendo Project, Symphony of the Rockies continues to reach thousands of students each season, solidifying its role not just as a performance ensemble, but as a cornerstone of music education and outreach in the region.
